Barley's is the bomb. Good food, good service, good beer. Been here ~15 times. Never have had a bad meal or experience. The buffalo chicken wrap is insanely good, and the beer selection is immense. Also on Saturday they have $2.50 cans during the day. And that includes ALL CRAFT CANS. I can't count how many times I've day drank and played shuffleboard here (mostly because I don't remember).

Ok.. Last reviews were 2013 so as an update, Kat, Brittany and Karen are excellent servers. Food has been consecutively excellent while service remaining top notch. This place continuously remains my go to comfort restaurant.... Do yourself a favor and go. I will definitely be there.

I've been to Barley's numerous times in the past year. This time I brought my laptop and a friend to talk college basketball. We sat on the bar side and ordered a favorite of mine: chips and queso. They don't serve chips and queso, but they'll give you tortilla chips and the pretzel cheese, which is pretty delicious. We also waited until the late night specials and ordered fried pickles. They were spears and not chips, but still good. The service here is pretty good. Our server gave us pub chips instead of tortilla chips. We proceeded to eat them, and then she brought us out another plate of actual chips and queso.

Happy hour with half off appetizers! Fried pickles were sliced dills, absolutely delicious. I also ordered a deep dish style pizza, which was amazing. Beers upon beers to choose from as well. Great wait staff and food didn't take too long to get out.

This my fav neighborhood bar. Been here plenty. Amazing selection of beer, and food is legit. Had a sour beer that our waitress suggested, and even gave a sample first. They always have tons of seasonals on tap. Had the Rosemary garlic almonds, were tasty. Friend had a goat cheese tart, was very tasty. This is not your typical crappy bar food. Happy hour has different special every day. Hard to find a spot on a Friday night, so plan accordingly or you'll be standing at bar. Which says a lot, because it is a very large restaurant with a big covered patio. Great place to watch games.

A favorite watering hole, the wall of 99 taps can usually produce something unique. Really good food selections as well!

My wife and I like to ride our bicycles on the Indian Creek trail and we also like to stop while biking and have a barley soda to quench our thirst and rest our legs. We realized we could do this about eight miles from our house on the trail at Barley's Brewhaus. On one of those trips we noticed that Barley's has a brunch starting at 11am on Saturday and 10am Sundays. We thought this would make for a nice Saturday morning ride and sweet reward for our efforts. We stopped in about 11:15 and there were maybe a few other tables but for the most part we could choose any table or booth in the place. We started with a couple Beer-mosas (Belgian Wit, orange juice and a splash of Lambic, $6/16oz) these were very good! I ordered the western omelet ($10) with fresh fruit and my wife ordered the vegetable frittata ($9). A few minutes later our food arrived hot and fresh. My omelet was perfect with peppers, onions, pepperjack cheese and ham. Eggs were prepared nice and fluffy and everything was hot and straight from the smooth top. My fresh fruit was just taht with pineapple, strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe and honeydew. My wife raved about her vegetable fritatta with onions, asparagus, spinach and zucchini then it was topped with arugula and goat cheese (I was slightly jealous of her food selection). We decided that we may have to make this a once a month tradition to ride our bikes to Barley's for the brewhaus brunch!

NIce choices of micro plates, small plates, and traditional items. And TONS of beers. I had a pick three micro plate consisting of one juicy meatball, some delicious pickles, and some excellent red and golden beets. The small plate I chose was the 7-hour pork poutine. That was really tasty. I need to try the 7-hour pork entree at this point!

I have been going to Barleys for years. They have a good happy hour, however I always feel like their wine tastes like the wine bottle has been open for a day or two. It doesn't always taste fresh. Many times the dinner side has slow service. Most of their food is good, I recommend flat bread pizza, salads, steaks, chicken tenders and whipped cauliflower . Don't order desert, you will be disappointed. Just not worth the money, dispite everything Barleys has a great atmosphere and is much, much better than Talk of the Town, located across the street.

Great food. Great service. The spinach dip comes with pita which is awesome. The beer selection is vast.

20 years ago it was unusual for a brewery or a beer specialty joint to have good food. Barley's has consistently not followed that path and their food/beer selection keeps getting better and better. I hosted a small group yesterday for yet another happy hour at Barleys. The service is always top notch, even if I never recognize the same bartender or waiter from previous visits. The food is always very good and interesting. Some if it sounds like heavy, greasy county fair food (fried pickles for example), but its all hand made and top notch. If you like beer. You will be happy. Make sure you walk around the corner towards the bathroom where you can see the big beer bottles. You'll like their selection. Make sure you ask about the alcohol in the beer if your'e driving. Many of the beers are stronger than usual.

Long time driver by first time diner...the food was very good and the service was outstanding! I will definitely come back for more. The waitstaff made my wife and I feel very comfortable and welcome. Whenever we head to a new restaurant we normally ask the waitstaff their recommendation and out waiter was very engaged and animated and gave us a fantastic suggestion. The meal was delicious and we will be back to try some other menu items in future visits. A very fun dinning spot in the heart of OP.

Barley's is good. Sometimes good - not consistently great food. Sometimes greasy apps. The quesadilla and flatbreads are the BEST! They have an amazing beer selection and good wines, too. I love to sit at the bar and have a beer. They are great for accommodating a larger group of friends. There is something for everyone!!

Hilariously, this place has the best Chicken Alfredo dish I can think of at a 'normal' kind of restaurant. Seriously, if I could eat that dish for the rest of my life and not get fat, I totally would. Also a beer list unrivaled makes things awesome. My family also has a funny history with this place as they seem to screw up literally every other time in some fashion (giving us our checks before we've been served, bringing entirely the wrong dishes to our table twice in one sitting, spilling beers while walking to us....) and it's been hilarious every time as we sorta expect it. I think we've had like 3 free full meals and close to 10 reduced meals for my family in the 15 years we lived in KC. Still, we go back because the place is great for a decent meal without going fancy. Cause it is delicious as all get out.

My meal exceeded expectations during KC Restaurant Week! The shrimp and grits app had just a hint of hops from the beer batter. And the grits were creamy & rich with a nice amount of sharpness from the cheddar. They also had this "grilled cheese thing" going on from being set under the broiler. The Bahn Mi meatball sandwich was exploding with flavor & perfectly balanced, savory, sour, sweet & spicy.(I could really taste the ginger, garlic, lemon grass, etc) Both had lots of crunch & texture as well as the perfect amount of heat. I enjoyed a La Fin du Monde (9%) to wash it all down & I'm definitely on a food high right now! Also, I received excellent service from Scott the bartender who was very knowledgeable about the beer as well as the food. For a bar with an exceptional beer list and great food and staff, I give Barley's 5 stars!

An extensive beer menu with many choices for all tastes and the main reason I love coming here. The food is good and not your typical bar food. Service is always attentive and helpful.

My husband and I come here every weekend and lately the service has been horrible. We like this place because the food is great and we can walk here from our home. I think we will be changing our "regular" spot very soon. Tonight when we arrived I asked for a booth and was told none were available. I said we will wait. I walked around and found 3 booths completely open and available. We were seated. Then our waitress tonight (we have had her before) was nice in the beginning and then in the middle of our meal brought our ticket. She did not ask if we wanted anything else and just said have a good night. My husband stopped her and said we are not done and would like more drinks and a dessert. I know this upset our waitress as she disappeared for 10 more minutes. She took our drink order and then was gone for another 10. I would like to have said no thanks on the dessert but the Black and Tan cheesecake is wonderful. Needless to say we ordered the dessert and never saw the waitress again. Very Poor service.

I'm a fan. If you like draft beer, this is a must stop (especially if you are a visitor in KC like I am). One of the signs of a good spot to me is the number of regulars and the friendliness/knowledge of the bartenders. This has both. EASILY 100 beers on tap.

    (4)
  • Amy S.

Love barleys, been coming here for a year. Best beer selection in the area. I wish they put their draft beer online so I knew what that had. I hate always calling. The food is good, the steak quesadillas are great. Good atmosphere, they never disappoint!

Barley's is always a great option for dinner, drink, or snack. This has become a regular meeting place for me with friends after classes at KU-Edwards during the week. "Firesale" drink specials are always high quality brews (but sell-out fast) and the their "Bomber" special (10 bucks for 750 ml beers) are also a good deal. Have always felt like their food is overpriced, but still good tasting.

  • Alexis R.

They offer a huge number of beer both on draft and in bottle. Comparable to the Barleys in Shawnee, this 119th location I believe is the original and they seem to carry more unique/rare beers. The Wednesday we stopped in for happy hour, they had Goose Island Bourbon County ($8.50), which I'd never has so of course I had to try it, and Rogue's Best Before series of beers ($6.50). The only happy hour specials are on beer pints, with just about anything below 7% ABV on tap sold at $3.50 a pint. If you are a mug club member (thankfully one of our party did have a membership), you get 1/2 appetizers during happy hour, but there are no food specials for non-club memebers. We tried the pretzel with beer cheese, chicken quesadilla, and spinach dip. Everything was just typical bar fare, nothing outstanding, but everything tasted good. Definitely not worth full price if I was in there again, but we enjoyed the happy hour. They unfortunately couldn't split the happy hour because of how the card members have the be rung up, but other than that, our waitress was friendly and helpful with beer recommendations. Prices on beers were ok with the happy hour $3.50 deal being the best in terms of the wide selection they offer.

Oh yes, gotta love all of the KC hopps restaurants: 75th st brewery, 810 zone, Barley's, etc. This one is the closest one to my place, although I have 2 other options nearby too. The menus are pretty much the same, albeit with different names. I recommend these places for anyone looking for a locals' fave, with the bar n grill feel. When you arrive, you are usually greeted by a friendly face, who sits you as soon as they can, although if it's busy, sometimes if you can grab a high top for your party that'll get you your food quicker. Just recognize that your server may be a little busy when you seat yourself... be patient! There are 2-3 sides of the restaurant, the quieter booth-filled dining side, and the high tops of various sizes (you can get the cozy 2 person seater or put tables together for the gathering of 15 too) of the bar side. When it's nice out, the patio is very nice, although usually busy and filled with smokers. The brewhaus is excellent for beer drinkers because you can get inexpensive flights of beer, to sample multiple beers, including some local flights! The food is above par, with certain dishes faring better than others... but about what you'd expect for the price. It's not gonna be the fanciest food out there but it is certainly not a bad choice. Solid burger, and pay the extra dollar for sweet potato fries! So good! Service is usually equally solid, and the employees are friendly. Not that this would drop any stars on the review, but my biggest complaint would be that my mom would really enjoy the place more if the red bean and rice came back to the menu, and had a whole grain rice option.

This particular Barley's is a good meeting point for a couple of my friends and me. I do not like some things about it. Parking is terrible during peak business hours, as Talk of the Town is next to it. Also, families with small children tend to fill this place during dinner hours. That may be a plus for some people, just not me. I really like coming here after about 9 pm during the week. I always sit in the bar area. The tap selection is pretty great, as it is with all Barley's locations. Bartenders are extremely knowledgeable about most of the beers.

Sunday brunch....don't bother!!! Bad service, if you like your Bloody Mary watery , clumpy runny grits, fatty undercooked bacon, and cold like coming out of the refrigerator cold biscuits gravy twice on the same visit...this place is for you. Go next door to Talk of the Town, better food, better bloody, better prices, and better people watching.

The place was just about deserted, even though the parking lot was overfilled, during two major TV college sports times, on a weekend during lunch, and restaurant week. Yet, the hostess stand wasn't being watched and the bartender didn't seem to care. We seated ourselves just in time for the hostess to come around and drop off menus. We should have walked away at this point, but the restaurant week menu looked pretty tasty. I ordered the Pork and Beef Meatball Banh Mi, which came on French bread, and came with a side of fries. The pickled onions on the Banh Mi at first were pretty tasty, but as I continued, there were just far too many on the small sandwich. The jalapeños were pickled jalapeños from a jar. The meatballs and French bread were great. My dining partner got the shrimp tacos. The tacos came with black beans that tasted straight from the can, and something that tasted like cheesy rice. Again, far too many pickled onions, as they drowned out anything else in the taco. Dessert was a Napoleon that was supposed to be two layers of brownie with whipped Irish cream and coffee mousse. It ended up tasting like something reminiscent of a Little Debbie due to the brownie being very sponge cake like, and the mousse was more like the white fluff filling of a Little Debbie. When our food was delivered, the I'm guessing manager, asked if we needed anything else. I asked for ketchup, but never saw him again. The beer the waitress recommended after asking about my beer tastes, was empty, but she did bring me the bottom of the keg to taste. The waitress treated us well, recommending a beer she thought I would like, checked on us often, and bussed the table when appropriate. I was in a little pinch for time, only had an hour and a half, and she did her best to ensure I was able to leave on time. Overall, not a great showing for restaurant week, and 99 beers isn't that much of an attraction for me.

Average food. Had a micro plate with almonds, olives and beets. Olives were great, but the beets needed a bit more goat cheese. Napa Chopped Salad was so so. Beer selection is excellent on the other hand. Service was spot on as well. They were even willing to change channels on TV at bar so I could catch the Mavs game. Lastly, for some reason my clothes reeked of food smell when I left. It may be because I sat at end of bar near the kitchen, but you'd think the ventilation system would be a bit better.

This is a great bar. The servers are great, the beer selection is fantastic BUT the managers are completely incompentnent. So beware of this bar. For a night out with friends i would reccomend elsewhere. Do not go to this place, with the options available and how inconsiderate the management is there are too many options available. After hosting a party here of 27 we, the last 2 people, were ordered out of the bar into a blizzard to wait for a cab when we were waiting in the entrance. Good show to out of towners of horrible hospitality.

Went in for lunch today and got the pan roasted chicken breast. I was expecting something that would fill me up, but this was just enough food for a small child. It was some kind of sauce or butter poured over top of the food and my whole plate was watery. My potatoes were also charred and the meal as a whole didnt have any flavor. It was very clean and our service and the host were friendly and on top of things. They also have a very large selection of beer, which is a great option for anyone looking to drink. The only problem I have with this place would be the choice of food I received.

While the server was on the ball the management was terrible. The good service was followed up with a very cold shoulder...kc hopps gave my out of town visitors a very negative view of Kansas City.

Took the wife here to try the Boulevard Saison-Brett and to check out the food/place. We were greeted instantly and Evan (sp?) moved us to a quiet booth in a relatively empty dining room. It was and early Saturday evening and the bar was pretty busy, but not overly so. We had the pickles and salmon for appetizers and really liked the tastes and small sizes. The wife (vegan) had the Superfood Kale salad and really enjoyed it. Someone did some solid homework and testing on that salad. I tried it and can confirm that it's good. I had the fish and chips and it was good bar fare that was well executed. The wife loved the Saison-Brett and was able to try the Delirium Tremens Belgian (similar to Hoegaarden) which she liked as well. Donald was our server and he was helpful; always there when needed, but not hovering. We tried a trio of desserts and liked the bread pudding, chocolate peanut butter parfait, and tiramisu. We'll be back.

The service can be hit or miss, but the food is consistently good and the beer selection is excellent. We have been there for a family meal, a date night, Mother's Day brunch and have always been happy with the food. The Happy Hour specials (4-6pm) are good, the crowd can be lively but not overbearing, and the bar area is nicely distanced from the seating areas.

I'm a fan of Barley's. They have a nice sized beer list and the staff is pretty knowledgable on it. The food is worth the trip as well. I ordered a steak last time and it came out perfect and didn't break the bank. It's a good semi-casual date stop or a nice hangout for the beer if you visit the bar with friends. Parking is tricky because of the small lot and the several surrounding businesses.

Went here for drinks only. Beer list is HUGE. My beer expert friends were impressed! Wasn't crowded but to be fair, it was a Monday. Service was good and seems like a fun place for lunch or dinner. Very casual.

I can not say enough about this place. We are new to town and tried on a whim after seeing an add in a paper. We have 3 small children and I was a little concerned it was a place for kids! It is super nice. I was wrong. While next time I go it will probably be date night, they welcomed us all in and had activities for the kids. We had such a nice evening. The food was awesome. I had kale salad and my husband had a 7 hr roasted pork. The beer flights were quite tasty as well. By far one if the best experiences we have had in town yet. Looking forward to going back!

Very slow service Waiter didn't know menu Ordered steak and was never asked how I wanted it cooked salad came with no dressing We used to eat here every week and then stopped coming because of the service This was our first time back in 6 months and sorry that we will not be back

5 stars because the food was perfect. The pork bellies were the best I have had so far in my 6 months in the KC area. The pretzels were fantastic. The wife's wiener schnitzel was delicious and the ribs... Oh my the ribs... They might be the best slab I have ever consumed. Chicago (my home for 34 years), Memphis (were I lived for 17 years for work), all my travels, and my 6 months in the KC area. The décor is very relaxing and open not crowded. I would have to not agree with Michael P. in the fact that it is a bit more expensive. WE have been to other places with similar menus and what you get here for the money is worth it. I have paid more for ribs not as good as these. Not sure if it was happy hour or not but the Saison-Brett was only $6/glass... Yum, we got the first two glasses of a new keg. While eating we watched a pizza go by so our next visit will include a pizza NOT A PIE!! in Chicago we do not call a pizza a pie, that is an east coast thing.

We met up with some friends at Barley's on a Friday night - it was pretty busy, but we were able to secure a table almost right away. Barley's has an impressive beer menu, but if you're a beer aficionado and visit more than a few times you'll notice the choices don't change very much. We opted for a selection of appetizers instead of an actual dinner - but maybe should've re-thought that plan. The appetizers were just ok, and really didn't seem to be worth the price we paid. Positives: -Lots and lots of beer. -Wide selection of food options. -Lots of seating and an outdoor patio. Negatives: -Lots of beer, but the selection doesn't change much. -Small parking lot. Expect to be parking over on the other side of the strip mall by Talk of the Town. -Waiter brought us the wrong beer...twice. This was after correcting us on the pronunciation of the beer (incorrectly). Barley's certainly isn't a bad place, but it isn't the best choice in the area either. Stop in on Saturday or Sunday afternoon when it's quieter to take in a Royals game at the bar and to sample a few brews, and skip the food.

My boyfriend and I came here about a week ago on a Friday night, it was fairly late and he was hungry. And I wasn't in the mood to go back to our usual Friday night late night meal stand by...so he suggested this place - something different from our usual stomping grounds and something he thought I would enjoy. (On a completely unrelated note, it was quite impressive that he suggested trying something different...doesn't happen all to often) I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in the overall ambiance was something that I was more comfortable with...and upon reading the menu, I was (and still am) completely in favor of making this our new late night standby. Seriously, how many late night bars will serve perfectly cooked Prince Edward mussels...and a pound of them no less!!! I also decided, since we were trying something different I'd order a drink that was different than my usual standby (Grey Goose Martini, Dirty) and instead ordered another favorite, a Maker's Mark Manhattan - wonderfully made, and quite excellently strong too! I cannot for the life of me remember what my boyfriend ordered, but it came with really delicious French Fries (I kept stealing them off his plate). He ordered a beer, which I tried (didn't mind it too much, but I really don't like beer all that much), but he liked. Service was excellent - friendly, and prompt. My only complaint is that since we opted to sit at a booth in the bar we ended up to a group of quite inebriated patrons that were quite loud - made it difficult to hear each other talk. Excellent food, ambiance, and service. Will most definitely come back!

Stopped here for lunch on New Year's Day and was quite pleased. They are owned by KC Hopps, thus affiliated with Blue Moose, 75th Street Brewery and O'Dowds. The menu had a lot of tasty offering. My wife and I started with the cheddar ale soup. It was tasty, but we were hoping for a bit ale taste. My wife went with the veggie sandwich, my daughter with the kid's cheeseburger, and I did the spicy sausage po' boy with hot giardiniera. It's served on a pretzel roll and it is awesome, particularly paired with one of the fine beer offerings. The prices are fair, the place is clean, the food was good, the beer is great, and the staff are pleasant. We'll be back.

Very quiet on a Wednesday evening. Service was excellent, very personable without being pushy. Had the pan roasted chicken. Chicken was well cooked, but the caper berries really overpowered the other elements of the dish for me. Unfortunately, were out of three of the beers I tried to order, but my server made alternative recommendations that were pretty on point for the styles I was looking for, and one was a daily special for $3. Overall, food was pretty good, service was excellent. Great beer selection when they don't run out. Be sure to check out the happy hour specials.

This is really a very nice place to chill and have a couple of beers. Were a few times when they were out of the ones I like and that's the only reason for the 4 stats. On top of that, I love their wings. Simple amazing ranch.

Barley's is usually good. But tonight was bad. They ran out of hard cider. Not just one brand - all the brands. That is my drink of choice, as it is gluten free. And our waitress was obviously over-extended - I've never had such bad service at Barley's.

Will make this short... this place is a gem! One of the best overall experiences (thanks Shelly)... with kids! If we lived close by, this place would be a definite weekly stop. Oh yeah... the beers are incredible. As long as you like real beer.

I went here today excited about their Restaurant Week menu.... which starts next week. Being I was already there I decided to enjoy lunch. They have a huge beer assortment, you get a separate beer menu to choose from. If you are a beer drinker, you will like this place. I have drove by many times and figured it was your typical bar food type place. Nothing wrong with that, but it didn't draw me in. I am glad I went today though because it is definitely above bar food with the selections they have on the menu. They have a huge menu from burgers and pizzas, to salads and meals. I decided to cater to my German side and tried the schnitzel with spaetzle. I wasn't disappointed at all. The schnitnel was well cooked and had a good seasoning. The gravy had excellent flavor and just enough was covering the meat to enjoy it, but not drown everything. The spaetzle was equally delicious. Finally a place that knows how to season water before cooking a noodle. Excellent. The dish also came with green beans. They were not dressed up, just a nice green bean cooked perfectly and with a good snap. The service was good. Friendly, not over bearing, but I did feel a bit rushed so the table could be turned. I am looking forward to their Restaurant Week offering and returning to enjoy other options on the menu.

Here for restaurant week. Ordered shrimp and grits. Not sure what 3rd world country recipe they are using but where I'm from we peel our shrimp before we fry them. I was comped on my meal so 3 stars for that.

Pretty sophisticated for a place in Kansas! Great selection of over 50 beers on tap. The bartenders can probably tell you how to fix a broken combine or how to shuck an ear of corn!

I love this place. I've eaten here about a dozen times and have never been disappointed. It's a great place to meet friends for drinks and appetizers. Also a great family restaurant. Their kid meals are good. Fairly priced and good quality. I love their unique menu selection. Every meal is fresh and well prepared.

My go-to takeout place. There is special parking for to go orders, and everything is always packaged properly. Sauces are separated from main dishes to avoid ruining the meal by becoming a huge mush on the ride home. It's easy enough for me to finish assembling the food at home and serve it. Food is always waiting for me at the hostess when I arrive, and they take credit cards. Total time in and out is under five minutes. Easy, good food. I'll be back.

3.5 stars. Barley's Brewhaus boasts about its extensive beer selection, which it should - the mere sight of its 99 taps is impressive, and with that kind of variety there's something to please beer amateurs and connoisseurs alike. For the indecisive and/or enthusiastic samplers like me, flights are a great option; get 5 low-ABV or 3 high-ABV beers (i.e., double IPAs or belgians) for $9 and taste away. And the pours are BIG! Beer aside, though, Barley's doesn't have all that much to offer. I think they're trying to go for an upscale gastropub but the menu is far too large for that concept. They offer multiple apps - from "micro plates" (1-2 bite portions) to small plates to regular appetizers, those take up the majority of the first page alone. Then there's salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads, and regular entrees...conceptually, the menu is a jumbled mess. And, as is often the case with restaurants with far too extensive menus, most items are passable but none really shine. The pork belly is fairly tasty but lacked some of the rich flavor that can be achieved with this cut of meat. The smoked trout was unremarkable. The pub chips are crunchy but not necessarily better than some brands of bagged kettle chips. Their house-made sausage is also decent but doesn't have that punch of juicy moistness that you can find from a great brat. Flatbreads were crisp and served in large portions but did not stand out. So I guess that while I can claim nothing was bad, the flip side is that there was nothing really that good, either: it all fell in the same middle-of-the-road mediocre category. Service had its ups and downs; it took our party of 7 over 40 minutes to be seated despite our reservation. While the employees were apologetic and very nice about this, I wish they had offered us a couple more options (i.e., splitting up the group into smaller groups, seating us at a slightly smaller table) instead of waiting for us to bring up these ideas. Our server was friendly if not a bit scattered and hurried - having coasters chucked at me down the booth is not the most relaxing way to start a meal. Overall the attitude of the place is friendly enough though, so I don't have any major complaints here. Barley's Brewhaus is definitely an establishment whose major goal is quantity. While this concept works well for beer, it does not for food. I'd come back for drinks but would be more than happy to pass on a meal here.

I'm a pretty big fan of Barley's Brewhaus. I usually come here after hitting up the dog park, and they let our dogs hang out on the patio while we sip brews and nom on some of the tasty fares. Their pretzels are great, especially when paired with their cheesy dipping sauce. Unbelievable. Sandwiches and wraps are pretty standard, and the beer selection is also pretty good. They pushed their "mini" plates on us once, and I definitely would not do them again. They pickle all their own foods, and while it's an interesting taste, I probably would skip it next time. Stick to burgers and wraps; their pork has been overdone. Overall, it is a pretty nice little place. Generally, servers are good about bringing out water for my dog, Daisy, and the managers have stopped by almost every occasion to make sure things are going okay. I think the location and convenience of bringing my dog here are my main pros. The deck is great on a nice day, but none of the food has blown me away. Nice little place to have a beer and burger.

As a place that has been on my list to revisit for about 4 months now, I was finally able to seize the day one random Thursday afternoon, and my experience was nearly flawless. I had called ahead to find out if they had a certain beer that I'd wanted to try and as often happens with good craft beer, that one was gone but I stopped by anyway since I was in the area. So glad that I did. I sat at the bar as usual, but toward the end because I had some Yelping to do and didn't want to risk another customer's spill to happen near my computer. It was a really quiet day and the two other customers at the bar seemed to know the bartender and staff. Everyone smiled as I walked in and nodded and the bartender gave me a second to unpack my bag and get settled before expecting me to order. I love when service fellow industry folks have that finesse on a slow day. I ordered a beer that I've only hd in bottle and was very excited to try it on tap. This was the only place in the area that I'd heard had it. He commented that not many people order it and started talking beer with me when he had breaks. He said it was only his second day behind the bar but I was impressed that he knew what he did being so new. The manager also came out and introduced himself and talked beer with me for about 20 minutes. I could tell they were bored on the quiet afternoon but they were not annoying and did samples of several of their beers that I'd never had with me. For lunch, I went with the shrimp, pepper, and pesto flatbread. It was HUGE! but really delicious. And with how thin the crust really is, I was able to eat about half of it which was kind of a surprise. There were several other menu items that looked delicious and I can't wait to try more. The prices were good for the quality of what I had. Definitely worth it but as a regular haunt, distance will keep it from entering the rotation. I highly recommend it if you're in that area though! As a side note, I was given a heads up for when they'll be tapping their last keg of that beer I initially wanted to try and let me say, I'm looking forward to May. I'm not telling what it is though. Can't have it gone before I get there next time!

My wife and I are from out of town and came to the area for a soccer tournament. Came for lunch. Great choices and great food. Helpful server who offered samples of beer when we were unsure. Highly recommend this place!

It's easy to be pretentious about food, but I don't think there's anything wrong with appreciating some good, old-fashioned bar food. Barley's is my go-to place for simple food and beer. There is a good beer selection, and the food is definitely much better than average bar food. In fact, I'd go so far as to call the menu creative...for a bar. I really dig are the buffalo chicken wraps, the chicken strips, the burgers and the pizza. The breading on the chicken strips has a unique and yummy flavor, and when it's combined with a perfect balance of buffalo sauce and cheese in the wrap, it really is comfort food heaven. The pizza is surprisingly rustic and earthy, and the burgers are moist and flavorful. I like the casual, yet clean and upkept, atmosphere. The live music is the absolute pits and I'd suggest you avoid going near the place on weekend nights when they have a band. It just gets SOOO loud that it becomes impossible to enjoy one's self.

We had a hungry and thirsty motley crew as we entered barleys today! The work reservation was made for 5 pm but they took us early birds fresh off our planes in, seated us and the orders started flowing! We tried 6 different appetizers which were shared around the tables. We all were sampling different beers. Our waiter Noah was a Rock Star!! Great service! Great Food! Our whole Group left there very happy people!!

Server is lucky he can his way to our table. He can't pronounce the dinner special, nor describe it, and knows ZERO about the beers offered. Shame on management for turning him loose on unsuspecting customers! Management cranked up the volume of the music when the place is almost empty. We went out for a nice meal and endured this. I'm a regular and promise it will be quite a while before I return.

I really really wanted to like this place, but with really poor service & average food it just makes it way to hard. They have fun items like crispy pork belly, fried pig ears & duck confit....we had two out of the three of those & I wouldn't order either one of them again. The kids split the fish & chips & the tarter sauce & fries were good, but the fish was greasy & fishy tasting. We might try this place again, but I'm not sure it'll be anytime soon. Oh & if you want a beer come here, but if you want a martini....go someplace else.

Stopped by to get my favorite salad in town. It is the Napa chopped salad. It was amazing but the service at the bar was not. I usually get awesome service from this bar but not tonight 5:00 pm 7/21/2014. When I arrived it took close to 5 minutes to get recognized. The bar tender was a shorter stature and had glasses. I would say his name but he never introduced his name. Once he put away all his new beer glasses out of a box he looked up and finally recognized me. He was not friendly. He made me feel like I was interupting him in his bar prep. I ordered the salad. Once it was delivered to me I had asked earlier during the order for dressing on side. He walked by me 10 times for a good 10 minutes not recognizing I was not eating my salad. Finally he ask me how everything was. I said I did not get my dressing. When I went to pay I placed my credit card on the little glass they use for tabs. My card was not recognized for 12 minutes. Again, washing bar glasses and doing prep work were more important than taking care of customers. Another bar tender showed up around 5:30 named Scott? and he seemed to have awesome customer service. This bad experience was a first for me at Barleys. If I go to Barleys again and see that bartender I will sit in the dining room or walk out and go elsewhere. A big part of eating out is the experience and receiving good service.

Spectacular global beer selection combined with gastro-pub menu. An attentive staff with an atmosphere friendly to all. Many large screens for watching the games. Wish they would come to Memphis and run Flying Saucer out of town.

I must update once more...sorry... So I ventured even deeper on my last visit here - I ventured beyond the beers. This is a gutsy move, if I do say so myself. Going to a beer place and ordering a mixed drink...well, my friends, that's like going to a Muslim restaurant and ordering Ham with a side of Bacon. I had a martini on my last visit. Yep, a vodka martini...at a beer place...using well vodka. And, believe it or not, it was decent. Considering it was made with well vodka (the brand of which appeared to be something I have never, ever seen before), it was pretty decent. I might recommend the slight up-charge to a recognizable vodka or gin next time, but it was decent. The olives were quite tasty as well, considering they were generic green w/pimento olives. However, some olives at surprisingly good places (cough cough THOMAS cough cough) are terrible...these were decent. Look, this place is still best for beer. And I have STILL only ever sat at the bar. But I really like this place. It's oh so much better than TOTT next door.

Barley's Brewhaus is hard to summarize. Is it a beer geek haven? Yes. Is it a restaurant with above average bar food. Yes. Is it a place to catch a cover band after a long week? Yes. My first experience was for dinner. Our waiter was fairly new and recommended what he had tried thus far. My friend and I ordered the fried pickles and chicken tenders which were salty enough to make me order more beer. Nice experience but similar to Applebee's or any other chain. My second experience was on a Friday evening. We sat at the East end near the large bar. There was a cover band playing classic rock tunes with a few missed notes that nobody noticed. I far more enjoyed this side of Barley's as it seemed more relaxed. The waitress was punctual and never let our beverages sit empty. We ordered some fries, chatted and enjoyed some craft beers. Relaxing. The beer selection here is fantastic. I was impressed Barley's serves Bridgeport I.P.A., one of my favorite beers from Portland, Oregon. The beer menu is broken out by style so there's no intimidation for non-beer geeks. I saw grown men downing Corona, sad sight. The foodEclub is a marketing technique that seems very similar to what casinos employ. Slightly tacky in my opinion but if you eat at K.C. Hopps establishments anyway you might as well get something in return. The parking lot here can get really full during peak hours.

I stopped in for a very late lunch/early dinner today. They were featuring special lunch and dinner menus for K.C. Restaurant Week. I tried the lunch menu -- 2 courses for $15 -- and had a delicious duck confit salad and a very nicely done 8-spice seasoned pork loin. The portions were very generous, and the pork loin came with some nicely crunchy, garlicky green beans and butternut squash gnocchi. The special dinner menu is $30 for 3 courses and featured items like a seared foie gras first course! That's shooting way above the target for a brewpub menu -- there's obviously an ambitious chef in the kitchen! Service was friendly and efficient. I'll be back to see what other specials they offer -- they're in my neighborhood so it's good to have some upscale, casual food nearby!

We liked the food a lot. Beer selection huge, although several stouts we ordered were out (popular). The Smoked Cheddar Ale Soup was great, and so were the Smoked Trout Pear Salad (on their mini plate menu), the petite tenderloin filet, and the cheese pizza (kids menu). Recommend.

The food at this location is good, not great. I had the kobe burger, which was good, mainly due to the fact they actually cook it to the desired doneness without having to send it back. The buffalo chicken wrap, not so good. Barely any buffalo sauce, and heavy breading on the chicken. Sweet potato fries are an option, but I thought they were so so at best. My major complaint was with the service. Our waitress was nonexistent except to take the order and bring the bill. Someone else brought the food out, so I am glad there was nothing else we needed. Tried to find a manager to discuss with him, but, alas, he/she was nowhere to be found either.

The hostess was good - friendly and fast to put tables together since we has a large number. Our server was great - friendly, prompt, kept our drinks full the whole time. I can't have dairy, so I ordered one of a few dishes that didn't have any - Chicken Putanesca. It was listed under "lighter portions - go ahead, indulge!" When my plate arrived, I was speechless - there was a miniscule ration of angel hair pasta with a smallish serving of chicken with sauce. It was definitely on the "lighter side", but there was absolutely no way to "indulge." I considered sending it back and asking for something else, but I was very hungry and had less then an hour for lunch. So I ate it. The sauce was so salty, I could barely taste the food. My co-worker ordered hamburger medium well and it came out medium rare. My other co-worker ordered hers medium, and it came out medium rare as well. I guess if you want a hamburger, it can only be cooked medium rare at this establishment. The third friend asked for "all you can eat" dish, and the server forgot that's what she ordered. The manager brought out additional part of the meal as we were ready to walk out. Very disappointing experience.

Have the best beer selection in KC! Always have special releases and taps that no one else in KC has. Thursday is $3 Pint Night and it's majority of their taps! Their patio is enjoyable too, especially when they have the fire pit going. Love this place.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this place. They have a very decent draft beer selection, and $3 pints on Thursdays. I did not expect to be drinking Ska Brewing Modus Hoperandi on tap in Kansas, and certainly not for $3 a pint!

Ok so Barley's isn't gourmet cooking, but it's pretty damn good regardless. It's the perfect after work, middle of the week hangout. Super laid back with a large variety of beers to choose from. Oh and an awesome Happy Hour (half price wine. hello!). And the service is pretty spectacular too. The ONE time I had a complaint (the mayo I had requested on the side came on my burger), the manager took it upon himself to come visit our table to apologize and even took it off the bill. Wow. That doesn't happen very often. Last night I had the Bavarian pretzel, spinach and artichoke dip and the rosemary chicken entree (don't judge...I shared!). All of it was super good. I'll definitely be going back here again soon!

I've been numerous times and have never been disappointed. They have a great selection of draft beer, and the food is above average for bar food. I'm a big fan of the fried pickles and the burgers. If I'm having lunch, I like the Cranberry Walnut salad. On the weekends, they have live music and it's more of a professional crowd instead of your young, falling down drunk crowd that you may find at some downtown bars. They have an outdoor patio for when the weather is nicer, but I wish the patio was a bit bigger.

Let me begin by explaining I took the wrong exit. I found the brewhouse next to a chiropractic office in an empty parking lot with snow plowed into a couple if corners. Turns out I parked behind the place! The place was full and already surpassed my expectations. Dark oak colors everywhere gave a warm feeling. I sat at the bar with a friend and we were greeted immediately by a really fun bartender. He had something good to say about all of the beers we were curious about. If you're looking for a place with a great variety of beers and bartenders that know their beers, this is the place. Prices were reasonable. Ambient was vibrant without the yelling and dark lighting of a club. I wish the place was closer to Nkc

To start off, they have a great beer selection! The service has always been great, as well as the food. Cheddar ale soup is tasty, as well as all the food we have tried. Nice steaks and salads, as well as some pretty nice cheeses and so much more. It is a nice environment with plenty of room. Great place for the games, we shall be there again.

I'm probably not the most qualified patron to review this place since I don't drink beer, but I do know how to eat and get my drink on, and I've done both here. On my two most recent visits, I had a Greek gyro salad and a goat cheese tart. I had a cup of their cheddar ale soup both times. The salad was decent, considering they don't specialize in Mediterranean food. Baby spinach, generous amounts of feta, tzatziki sauce, gyro meat, and a tangy vinaigrette. Again, it was decent, but too expensive. $10.99?! I could get better (for less) elsewhere. The tart was good. I appreciate that they even had this option on their menu. That said, I'd just been to Mimi's Cafe recently, and their asparagus/brie/bacon quiche was, quite honestly, better. Anyway, the goat cheese tart was listed under "Small Plates", but it was a decent-sized portion and priced just right at $5.99. The cheddar ale soup was good both times. I frequent bars as much as a sex addict frequents brothels. And I tire of the same boring food options like the addict bores of his wife. (Yes, I went there.) Greasy apps, cheap pizza, the same tiresome sandwiches...I get sick of the typical dull options. I SO welcome Barley's interesting choices and array of "casual finer dining" items. Odds and ends: Service is usually good. It's classier than a sports bar, but not so pretentious that you feel out of place if you're not dressed up. I appreciate the spaciousness. It gets so busy that you can't find a parking spot, but the tables are placed sparsely enough that you don't have to hang out with the fellers at your neighboring tables. Lastly, my drinks are always stiff enough to taste the bite of alcohol.

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. This is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been too. The service is ungodly slow and every server I have had has proved to be incompetent. The first time I went on a Thursday afternoon I waited 45 minutes for my check, while others simply walked out without paying. The second time I went it took 30 minutes for my check when there was only 1 other table in the restaurant, I got two wring drinks and the wrong entree. Horrible, horrible, horrible, don;t waste your time!

My husband and I attended Barley's beer school last month and experienced terrible customer service. The school started at 6 pm, and I arrived at about 5:45 pm, directly after work and an appointment. I asked for a menu and was told I wasn't allowed to order because it interferes with the taste of the beer. However, other beers that were not part of the beer school could be ordered concurrently with the event. This was frustrating as other beer will affect your palate just as much as food. We called the manager over and he gave us the same speech. I told him that I had not eaten since 11 am, didn't have time to stop elsewhere before the event, that I was feeling ill, and this rule should have been posted somewhere in advance. I let him know I was getting a migraine and needed something with substance so I didn't become really sick once the beer was served. He asked if I could wait an hour to eat. I told him I was getting sick and could not. He finally brought me a menu and then made me wait another 20 minutes before taking my order. The table behind me was given a free soft pretzel order, no questions asked, because Barley's ran out of the small hard pretzels that went with the event. I ordered the same thing and was made to feel like a bad customer. They didn't fill up our waters once during the beer school hour event either. I don't think we will ever go back. The customer service at the other location is so much better.

I have been patronizing Barleys since they opened, have brought the family or met friends. S The place is always hoppin' and food is good. Occasionally have had a poor experience but still someplace I would go for a quick bite. Kid/family friendly. Great beer selection and live music sometimes.

Just like 75th Street, another KC Hopps restaurant that has been degrading over time. I mainly go here for KC Hopps benefits, a good selection of beer, and decent food. They still have the benefits and they still have a good beer selection. However the food is inconsistent, often the service is below average, and they are overpriced. The servers often are not that helpful and can't even tell me the special beers they are featuring. This is one of my main reasons for going here... the beer. They do have great sweet potato fries though... I've been holding off writing this review for a long while... I'll still visit Barley's occasionally unlike a lot of my other 2-star reviews.

What more could you ask from a bar? Food is a 4/5 and the beer is a 5. Service could be a little better and quicker but a lot of times they are busy. I would probably give them an overall 4.5/5 but in the end the best beer bar in joco and I could argue in all of kc. If you haven't been there you should give it a try.

Like others have said, this place is pretty standard for a 'Brewhaus' atmosphere. Most of the time, the wait staff is really friendly (except when they are overwhelmingly busy), but sometimes it does take a while for the food to come out. The rosemary chicken is pretty good, and the price ($15) was well-set- as it is for most of the food. The chipotle quesadillas were also really really good- a pretty spicy dishes sometimes just really hits the spot! As for the beer, they have some cool flights grouped by where they are from or what kind of beer they are. You can also build your own flight, which is pretty cool. There are tons of beer on tap, it takes a while to choose one!

Anywhere with 99 beer taps is great in my book. The food is worth checking out too. Very good. The seared pork tenderloin is awesome. They guest rewards program is very generous and they dish out free money on the rewards card for every dollar you spend. Which in my case if a good amount.

Had a late dinner at Barley's tonight due to Ash Wednesday service at church. The KSU game was on and the house was packed. Trista just got off work and met me to have a drinky drink. She ordered a Coconut Cluster that was served hot and she enjoyed it. I ordered the Barley's Burger with sweet potato fries (oh yeah) and cottage cheese. Fantastic. Rachel was our server and she was nice and attentive. Great neighborhood bar and food as well as a ridiculous number of beers on tap.

Barley's Brewhaus in Overland Park is a fun place to try out some micro-brewed beers and relax with friends, without the having to drive all the way downtown, the Legends or Zona Rosa. Barley's has the feel of a classic brewery, high ceilings, clean and nice setting with big glass windows encasing impressive copper-colored beer vats. When I attended the Brewhaus to sample some delectable ales and lagers I also enjoyed some of their fine cuisine. I order a pasta dish and as with any pasta, I found it to be fantastic. I got full on beer and pasta had enough of one of them take home to enjoy the next day. If you are there to drink moderate to vast amounts of beer I would not recommend a carb for dinner however, as it takes up too much room in your stomach.

It's been a year-ish since the remodel and the place looks great! A chain restaurant, yes, but at least is locally owned. I think I've had just about everything on the menu, and haven't been majorly disappointed yet. The chicken sandwich, club, cheeseburgers (with sweet potato fries), any of the salads, and the fried pickles are personal favorites. There is a late night menu that is ok. Flat bread pizza, selected apps. Lots of beer on tap, wait staff is friendly and prompt. I have never been skeeved out or been nervous by the customers, which happens more than most people would expect

**99 Taps of beer on the wall, 99 Taps of beer Take one down pass it around, 98 Taps of beer on the wall** It's true, they have 99 varieties of domestic, craft and import beer for your sipping (or guzzling) delight. Also a decent variety of bottles, I am always pleased when I see Trappists being fairly represented-although they lack Achel, probably my hands down favorite beer. For a first timer on a visit to this location here are a few brews you can't miss and why. Please drink in order or your palate will not appreciate the subtle progression of these brews: A) Wheat State Golden (Free State Brewery, KS) If you live in the state and you haven't sampled the wares of the FSB you simply must. This is a light palatable beginning and a good steady for those who seek lighter bodies libations. If Steve is still brewing there I assure you it will delight. B) Delirium Tremens (Belgian) Despite what the name suggests (alcohol withdrawal of the most severe form) this beer is pleasure in a glass. It falls in the category of "strong pale ale" with an ABV somewhere over 8%. Was voted "best beer in the world" some years a go. Whatever that really means. Also recommend trying the "Nocturnum" from the same brewery if you come across it. C) Optimator (Spaten, Germany) Now that the Tremens has left you trembling for a more rich mouthfeel I advise the Optimator. In true doppelbock style this rich malty lager will delight your tastebuds without leaving you too full. If you like this style I also recommend the Ayinger Celebrator. Now its time for a "choose your booze" adventure. If you have a sweet tooth and tend to end your evening with dessert progress to beer "D". If you have an affinity for all things hoppy (screw that sweet shit!) progress to "E". D) Double Chocolate Stout (Youngs, UK) Bare with me here and ask your bartender to do the same. If you go on a Mon/Wed the bloke behind the bar is quite accommodating. Ask him for a scoop of ice cream. Vanilla to be precise. Drink half of your creamy rich chocolate stout, and pour recently presented Ice Cream into the glass. Big Kid Float. Need I say more? E) Racer 5 IPA (Bear Republic, CA) Oh hoppy heaven this IPA has bite. It's not the kind of beer I could drink all night and because of the distinct hop finish I don't advise starting with it (it will effect the way you taste everything past it) but as a night cap give it a go. I hope this has provided some insight into the pleasure of having so many options. With that I leave you with a quote I am borrowing from a Free State t-shirt... "Because with out beer things do not seem to go as well..." Diary of Brother Epp, Capuchin Monastery. Make life better with beer. This is a great place to start doing so.

Excellent selection of beer, of course, and the beer flights were a delightful surprise. The food was amazing (except, unfortunately, for the biscuits and gravy when we returned for brunch, though the other brunch items were delicious). Great cider, too, fast and friendly and attentive service, and the live music was fun. Definitely recommend for a night out, and I'm looking forward to college football Saturdays there.

SLOOOOOW service! Especially since it wasn't busy at all! And on top of that their beer menu was VERY out of date...4 of the beers I attempted to order hadn't been on the menu for at least 6 months! That's pretty ridiculous for a place that boasts it's beer selection! Working in the service industry it was a sad experience overall.

I am a major fan of Barley's! I haven't gotten to the point of getting my own mug yet and I'm not sure if they're still giving those out but I probably deserve one. Maybe not, but I am there quite a bit. The awesome thing about this place is their HUGE selection of beers on tap! As for the food, the variety of items on the menu is extensive and broad as well. I've had the German Potato Cake which is a bit starchy for my taste. I have tried two of the pizzas. The Fungus and Fromage is great, especially because I am a mushroom fan. And I've had the Don Corleone Pizza which satisfies the carnivore in all of us with its sausages and pepperonis. I've always wanted to try the Windy City Pie but the 30-40 minute wait scares me. Seeing as how I'm becoming more and more of a brunch fanatic, I've also had orders of the Biscuits and Gravy and Creme Brulee French Toast to compliment my bloody marys and Irish coffees. Great bar staff! I must give a shout-out to my favorite bartender there Nathan! Always a friendly person to have pour your drinks.

Huge selection of beer on draft, though very few of them speciality. Good selection of local brew, but again, nothing unusual that you couldn't find elsewhere. What Barley's has going for it is that you can find them all in one place. The food is just OK. This is the second time I've been here and it's average pub food. Nothing that's spectacular. A few pasta dishes, pies, burgers, and steaks. Prices are what you would expect for an upscale suburban pub as well. I had the chicken wrap which didn't really stand out from any other spicy chicken wrap I've had. One of my dining companions had the rosemary chicken which she enjoyed and my other dining companion had the salmon which he enjoyed as well. Again, nothing spectacular but done OK. Service was attentive and I felt sorry for our server because my two dining companions were very chatty and kept talking to her about nonsense. Nothing really jumps out at you here which is why I'm giving Barley's an average three star rating.

Crash and Burn. Don't make me wait 40 minutes for a $20 deep dish pizza, screw up the order, and then call your manager for him to come and tell me he can take off a few bucks on my order but only take TWO bucks. This after I SPECIFICALLY told you NO JALAPENOS because my wife hates spicy. That's insulting. What am I supposed to do? Wait another 40 MINUTES for you to make me another deep dish like you offered me? This after playing three hours of smashhmouth tackle football? I'm a grown man. Don't be so dumb to offer me another pizza and then only take off two bucks on my order. That's pathetic. PIZZA HUT of all places will just give you the darn order for free when they screw up. I mean, they don't even hesitate. It's a part of the game. You screw up, you pay the price. Now im not expecting a full refund, but come on, maybe half price on the pizza? A gift card? What about a free dessert to make my wife happy after you ruined her dinner? Oh, and another mistake. 99 beers and NO BECKS on tap? Your idiot that is in charge of brews should be mollywopped. You don't ruin my wife's day and you absolutely don't ruin my day with absolutely pathetic customer service. Especially when i'm that hungry. You couldn't drag me in this place if I were dead.

Barley's is so typical in terms of a lot of things that I'd felt like I'd been there before. The on tap (99 beers! Oh my!) selection is almost pricey, but not unheard of in Overland Park. They pour a good Guinness; almost a perfect pint. Almost. The place was a little too busy on both sides: one end is a restaurant, the other a large drinking area behind the bar. The waiting area's gatekeeper, when I asked how long for a table, replied "40 minutes" in that, "I wish you would leave" kind of way. Maybe she thinks the place gets too busy for its own good, too. Hard to say. The wait staff in the bar area was on top of things, though, from big parties to individuals who were wondering around looking for someplace to stand, content to have to lean against a wall here or there (did I say it was packed?). I have to say once we got a table the waitress, Nicki, was absolutely perfect, even with my surly friends throwing her curveballs. We took a vote and decided she was the cutest thing we'd ever seen. Ever. I had a Barley Burger, and was not impressed; when I'm asked how I'd like my burger cooked, I think... "somebody back there actually cares?" They didn't care. Medium means well-done, in case you're curious. Others at my table had salads, fish and chips, etc. From what I heard the salads were surprisingly good, and everything fried (appetizers, fish and chips, etc) were, well, fried. You really can't screw that up. If not for Nicki, they'd get 2 stars, but a great waitress can save a place from damnation.

While, I'm not in love with this place, the beer drinker in me finds it hard to stay away from their 99 beers on tap. Although, on multiple occassions I have tried to get a Warsteiner Dunkel only to receive a regular Warsteiner. As earlier reviews have described, there is a busy bar area to the right when you walk in and a larger restaurant area on the left. The waiting area can get rather crowded if you go on a busy weekend night, as you pretty much just have to stand in the area between the two spaces as the wait staff tries to squeeze through. You can clearly see all of the beer taps if you take a seat on the bar. Barley's features a mug club, which I don't know the details of, and their beer menu is very comprehensive. They recently started doing different flights of beer, which is six different, smaller glasses of beer that are related in some manner. It's great for those who enjoy a variety of different tastes. I've had a number of different menu items, and have no real problem with any of them. Their burgers are nothing special. The club sandwich is rather good. They make their own sausages at Barley's which I have enjoyed in their cajun dishes and most recently on the italian sausage sandwich. The fries are hit and miss. They have been a bit cold a few times I've eaten here. You can substitute them for sweet potato fries (not as good as what you can get at Lucky's), fruit, cottage cheese, coleslaw or other side items that incur you an up charge. The wait staff is hit and miss. I wouldn't say it's bad, but there's room for improvement. A problem you run into when eating in the restaurant section of a beer place like this is that the staff isn't as familiar with the drink selection and orders get messed up. Now that the smoking ban is in place, I may try eating in the bar area more often.

The bookie has to even out the odds here! Because the odds are you will really enjoy the drinks and the food. Have been here many times and yet to be disappointed. Always good food, good service and a great time. If you have not given this place a try, it is worth the stop.

My experience with Barley's has been a love and hate relationship. I have realized to get the best service, you have to sit at the bar. A cup of the cheddar ale soup is a must. Their cranberry walnut salad is a little disappointing. Their chipotle quesadillas can vary on quality from time to time. I recently noticed they added more German themed items to their menu. The atmosphere (before their live music) is more enjoyeable and some nights can be more casual. Their size of beer selection cannot be beat in the immediate area. However, a few more tweaks with their food menu and it could be a great place.

They have excellent food and TONs of beer on tap. Great Atmosphere. Although, they have lost my patronage after a manager was rude to me.

The Spicy Chicken Salad is excellent and I order it almost every time. Whenever I venture to the rest of the menu I'm not overly impressed. The masculine, clubhouse decor is comfortable, however, it's the excellent beer selection that continues to bring me back.

Standard brewhouse - they have 99 beers on tap - and also Delirium Tremens for Belgian beer lovers. Food was good - fairly casual atmosphere with friendly wait-staff.

Good beer selection + good small-plates selection + upscale-casual atmosphere + attentive service. I like it for date night. They've got a nice patio, too, now that the weather has cooled off.

Recommend.

I just had the most recent fish du jour which was the Ruby Red Trout. Seasoned perfectly, grilled to perfection! Absolutely the best trout I've ever had!! I'd order it over and over again!! Excellent job!!

Ok.. Last reviews were 2013 so as an update, Kat, Brittany and Karen are excellent servers. Food has been consecutively excellent while service remaining top notch. This place continuously remains my go to comfort restaurant.... Do yourself a favor and go. I will definitely be there.

  • Alexa P.

Not that great for their prices. I find myself disappointed every time I go there. Their pizza and whipped cauliflower are good, but other than that I haven't had anything I liked. Not worth the money.

We eat here all the time- love barleys. Always good service and the food and drinks are reliable as well. 5 stars for consistent awesomeness.

Guilty: I don't Yelp as often as I should. This place is amazing! We had the haus burrito and savory pancakes for brunch... Both delicious!!!! What a great tap list and knowledgeable servers! I can't recommend this place enough...

Spectacular global beer selection combined with gastro-pub menu. An attentive staff with an atmosphere friendly to all. Many large screens for watching the games. Wish they would come to Memphis and run Flying Saucer out of town.
